Nationwide Local Directory and Movie Guide for Cell Phones
June 29th, 2005 | by amarfresh |mFoundry annouced today the release of go2 mGuide, a Java-based mobile application which will allow users access to a nationwide phone directory and movie guide.
Some of the PR rhetoric goes like this:
“mWorks enabled us to make dramatic improvements in the user interface and experience for the mGuide downloadable applications that simply weren’t possible in the WAP experience,” said go2 CEO Lee Hancock. “mGuide delivers the up-to-date information go2 users have learned to expect from go2’s mobile movie guides and directories but in a faster and more intuitive package. We’re confident that go2’s new mGuide, like their WAP counterparts, will become standard-bearers for the industry and must-have resources for people on the go.”
The software is currently available to Sprint subscribers, but plans are underway to bring Cingular, Nextel and the others into the mix. The press release failed to mention the price/subscription fee of the product. Upon further investigation, it seems that it is a “premium” download for Sprint users.

For those of you who like don’t like to pay for otherwise free content on their cellphones I suggest using TellMe. By dialing 1.800.555.TELL (1.800.555.8655) users can get movies, weather, stock quotes, news, and a multitude of other things. According to their site, they will be rolling out free local directories as well.
