Texting, (email and IM): Less personal but more frequent (survey)
October 27th, 2005 | by amarfresh |Britons are communicating more frequently than ever, but many feel that the rise of text-based digital services has made communication with friends and family less personal, according to a new survey.
The survey also indictated that people use email, text and IM in situations where they are trying to avoid confrontation or find communication uneasy.
Ok, ok here are juicy details:
* 81% of respondents indicated email as most popular method to contact friends and family
* 41% of respondents preferred not to receive a phone call
* 50% of people felt that they have less time to keep in touch with friends and family now than in the past
* 40% of respondents found new technologies less confrontational
* 27% used email, texting, or IM to flirt
* 22% used email, texting, or IM to apologize for missed birthdays
* 19% used email, texting, or IM to call in sick
I think that email, texting and IM is a perfectly acceptable way to communicate. Email is a strong medium for voicing how you really feel. In many ways it is very personal, allowing you to say things that you would not face to face or on the phone. What say you?
