5 Rules of SMS Etiquette
October 31st, 2005 | by amarfresh |I found this on an Italian site and thought I would “loosely translate” them for you. (Thanks to Google, and the Italians here at Flycell)
1. Be courteous and acknowledge the receipt of incoming text messages. A simple Y or OK will do the trick.
1. Avoid gratuitous use of shorthand and use spaces. While some abbreviations are obvious and accepted, they can ultimately cause confusion and miscommunication to those who are not SMS savvy. Take the extra time to spell and space your messages and be aware of your recipient’s “cryptography” skills.
1. Avoid forwarding SMS “chain letters”, this is just as bad as SPAM. Unnecessary, a waste of time, and costly.
1. Personalize your messages. Avoid sending the same impersonal message to groups of people. The cell phone is for personal communication not for spamming your friends.
1. Clear your phone’s inbox and outbox daily. (Most Important according to the article.) Too many relationships have gone up in smoke based on misconstrued (and perhaps not) text messages saved on your phone.
