N-Gage on hold?

November 28th, 2005 | by amarfresh |

Nokia announce that they will not build any new versions of the N-Gage in the near future. The company cited disappointing sales and that gaming was not to be a focus until 2007. (But it was back in 2003 when they released the N-Gage, right?)

Nokia is concentrating on mobile music for the rest of this year, and next year’s main push will be on driving mobile television.

Soon, the capabilities of your average cell phone will meet or exceed that of an N-Gage. I don’t see the need to differentiate an N-Gage from a regular Symbian phone; and apparently neither does Nokia as of late. Good for Gizmondo? Perhaps. I think the pressures from the PSP, WiFI networks, and carrier restrictions all play into this announcement as well.
