Verizon sues alleged cell phone spammer

Verizon is going up to bat for its customers…again. Once more, an SMS spam company has been sued by Verizon for unsolicited text messages which prompt the user to call a 1-800 number.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, Verizon alleges that nearly 100,000 copies of the spam messages have been sent by Florida-based Passport Holidays. Verizon is asking the court for an injunction to stop the firm from sending the messages, and is seeking financial compensation for damages.

The company sent messages which told customers they won a cruise to the Bahamas. The marketing company claims that the users all opted-in to receive SMS messages. Sure they did.
