No more Crack(berry)? Noooo!
November 30th, 2005 | by amarfresh |A settlement between BlackBerry creator RIM and supposed patent-owner (of RIMs email push technology), NTP has been declared invalid by a Federal judge. What was a $450m settlement may now result in a $1b payout. If not, we may soon be going through CrackBerry withdrawal.
Spencer could next consider reissuing an injunction that threatens to shut down U.S. BlackBerry service. However, analysts and industry observers expect RIM will be backed in a corner and forced to settle for a sum as high as $1 billion.
If the judge decides to suspend the BlackBerry service, he is sure to anger the large numbers of lawyers using BlackBerrys. Lawyers without BlackBerrys? Not gonna happen.
Microsoft must be loving this.
