MTA Makes Mobile-izing Subway Difficult for Bidders
December 5th, 2005 | by amarfresh |
“Mobileizing” the NYC subway is proving to be more difficult than originally thought. This mostly due to the MTA’s tight restrictions on the project; including the request that only stations and not tunnels be wired.
The companies figure a commuter could use 40 minutes of talk time during a commute but only about 10 minutes at a station — not enough to recoup the estimated $250 million investment. Companies were also upset the MTA wants them to lease space for their equipment.
Meanwhile, the connected citizens of Cedar Rapid’s Iowa have Wi-Fi on their buses. Ugh.
