Verizon and Vodaphone: Breaking Up is Easy to Do?
January 23rd, 2006 | by amarfresh |Although Carlo titles his post, “Investors Tell Verizon to Dump Vodaphone” I think he may have intended it the other way. It appears that Vodaphone investors are calling for a sale of their 45% stake in Verizon.
The Verizon stake doesn’t make a lot of sense for Vodafone these days, since it’s got no management control and Verizon uses CDMA technology, rather than GSM. The Times asserts “selling Verizon would mean Vodafone abandoning its ambition to be the world’s leading cellular company,” but that’s not necessarily true…
The CDMA - GSM difference is big, fundamental difference it seems. Also, Carlo points out how eager Vodaphone was to purchase AT&T right out.

I am trying where to find some mobile information. We are going to France for 3 months starting Mar. 1, 2006 and I want to know the best way to have a cell phone that can call the US and receive calls from the US. Cingular tells me I can take out their chip and buy a Vodaphone chip when I get to France…..I am really confused as to what to do and what is the most economical. Any help would be greatly appreciated…..
