Mobile Content for Adults (not Porn)
January 24th, 2006 | by amarfresh |Ringtones and wallpapers rule the schools; it’s no secret that the average ringtone consumer is aged 13-24. What about the rest of the population? Sure there are puzzle games like Tetris and music which appeals to all ages. Strictly speaking for adults, porn is sticky, so alcohol must be too!?
eRobertParker.com and mFoundry, a leading mobile publisher and platform provider, have partnered to deliver Robert Parker’s wine tasting notes and ratings via a subscriber’s mobile phone “on the go” such as at the tableside in restaurants or while shopping for wines.
Obviously the demand for such an app may be limited, but at least there is an option out there for mobile wine connoisseur. (Or even wannabes.) While interesting and useful, an app like this will need careful marketing to those it may benefit. Let’s be honest. There are those that purchase wine at restaurants and those that *know* what they are puchasing. When deciding between a $150 and $400 bottle of wine, having Robert Parker’s knowledge could come in handy. Which brings me to my next question: Do those who this service target even know how to use their cellphones in this regard? I think the majority don’t, but as time goes on (as younger, more cell-savvy people get older), they will.
This is definitely a demo first app. Possibly with a cost per search option if the user decides not to subscribe for a month. Seriously, how often does one need to consult a wine guide on a monthly basis? On the flip side, if you do need instant wine guide access, chances are you won’t balk at a $4.99/month charge. (Sprint only for now.) This seems like a must-have, preloaded app for Vertu and Voce users.
Must be nice. I hope to have a need for the service someday.
