Google to sack San Francisco

February 9th, 2006 | by amarfresh |

Ok, maybe sack is the wrong word… for now.

Since November, Google has provided free WiFi to the citizens and visitors of Mountain View, California. They now have their eyes on San Francisco and equipment makers Motorola, Nintendo, Sony, Seimens (more) have their eyes on Google.

Ten or more committees in San Francisco would need to approve plans for a Wi-Fi network, including an aesthetics committee to review the appearance of access points that would be installed on light poles, traffic lights and other locations, Sacca said. Another challenge is that those installation sites aren’t all owned by the city but by several different entities, all of which Google needs to deal with, he said.

It’s after I read things like this when I wish I was out west. But we all know, nothing beats NYC. (well except maybe San Francisco when they get GoogleFi.)
