Random Searches in NYC Public Schools Result in Cellphone Seizure
April 26th, 2006 | by amarfresh |In an effort to curb violence and gang activity in public high schools, New York City has started doing random sweeps of NY schools.
The first random sweep targeted a school in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Mind you, last time there were searches, 5 students were arrested. No arrests today, but…
Officers issued one summons for possession of a knife and a summons for possession of mace. At the same time, they confiscated 50 cell phones. Department of Education officials say the phones will be returned to students at the end of they day.
Looks like the city is cracking down on cell phones too.
“Mom, I’m in jail… I had a cell phone in school.”
Without their cell phones, how can I sell them ringtones?
Perhaps cell phone usage should be made a privilege for students who have special circumstances or high enough grades/test scores. Incentive enough? Maybe not.
