Mobile phones free of cost if elected to power

An Indian politician hopes to “cell” voters by promising free mobile phones.

idk what the campaign laws in India are, but perhaps this could be the best spent campaign money ever. In the US, politicians speak of lowering taxes and putting more money in people’s pockets.

Could a $50 - $100 “voting incentive” created a swing for Kerry in the middle states? Would it have been fiscally possible? Any way you look at it, you need money to run a successful campaign; and usually the person with the most of it wins.

Who says elections are not “bought” in our “democracy.”
