Magic Dell desktop switches off by text

July 28th, 2006 | by amarfresh |

I came across this article on The Register. Apparently some Dell computers will shut down unxpectedly when a phone in close proximity receives a text message.

This from DELL:

\”Dell systems are designed to operate in line with industry standards for power and electro-magnetic shielding. We recommend to customers who are experiencing interference to avoid using mobile phones within one foot of the system. We encourage customers to contact Dell directly if they have other concerns.\”

In their next version of product literature it will be considered a feature. :) But seriously… that kind of remote shutdown technology should be enabled for irons, toaster ovens and stoves. (I haven\’t burned down my house, but could\’ve definitely texted a shut down to my toaster oven on numerous occasions.)
