Geometry Wars Mobile

When the Xbox 360 launched last year so did a revamped Xbox Live Arcade. Arguably, the most popular title was Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, a cool, outer space shoot-’em-up with a look reminiscent of Atari’s old school vector graphics games. It was easy to pick up and play, and, thus, a classic was born.

Just announced is Geometry Wars Mobile, a version for cell phones. I’d applaud the decision except the game requires two analog joysticks to play, and last time I checked there’s exactly zero of them on today’s handsets.

Sure, a game like Pac-Mac used a joystick too, but going up/down/left/right with a keypad is easy. In Geometry Wars, though, you’re constantly flying around the screen, in eight directions, and that kind of fluidity is nigh impossible to replicate on a keypad. The only mention of a control scheme is this line in the press release: “[The] intuitive “tap” control allows you strafe or fire in front of you.” Now there’s a great big huh?

If Hardcore3D Wireless can pull it off, swell. Most game offerings for cell phones are lousy, overpriced garbage. Let’s hope this won’t get added to the heap.

Props to: Modojo.
