Apple iPhone confirmed…again…sort of…maybe…

Hon Hai, a Taiwanese manufacturer, has gotten a lot of love from Apple lately, although the latter wishes the former would keep their big stupid mouths shut about it. Last month, a Hon Hai exec oopsie’d and let slip they were going to manufacture a 15-inch MacBook for sale in May 2007. That’s all well and good except Apple hasn’t made that product announcement yet. (And if current rumors are to be believed, the 15-incher might be delivered in December.) And now:
The word is Hon Hai secured a contract with Apple to slap together 12 million handsets with music player functionality. Whatever for? Given the timing, this bodes well for an announcement at the Macworld Expo in January of the device.
Yeah, Apple’s got the portable MP3 player market wrapped up all snuggly like, but is the cell phone market one they want to muscle into? Would it be like Microsoft trying to grab a share of the portable MP3 player market? Will anyone besides Mac geeks buy an iPhone? Is it possible for me to write a fourth sentence ending with a question mark?
