Future iPhone users in Vermont? None.

Before the announcement of the iPhone, Apple fanboys living in Vermont probably didn’t care much that theirs is the only state in the U.S. with 0% Cingular coverage. Okay, sure, it’s not like Vermont is densely populated, and it’s been forever since the adjective teeming was used to describe Montpelier, but the fact is you will not be able to use an iPhone in the state of Vermont.

Cingular plans its service expansions two years in advance, and there’s nothing in the pipeline for the Freedom and Unity State. At least they still have that delicious syrup.

Props to: The Cell Freak.

Actually, Unicel has good coverage in Vermont so you can roam in Vermont with an AT&T/Cingular account. People are currently trying buying phones out-of-state and bringing them in, but in the past AT&T/Cingular has cancelled accounts of people that roam that much within a couple months, so we’ll see how long that trick lasts.

Unfortunately, yesterday’s news that Verizon Wireless is buying RCC (i.e. Unicel) does not bode well for Vermont, see the following post on my weblog:

Of course, other states that were in a similar boat as Vermont lucked out with AT&T’s announcement that they were buying Dobson (Cellular One) the same day the iPhone was released. C’est la vie.
